The skip hire
alternative

Pricing up a skip? Before you book one, see what it really costs. We turn up, load everything ourselves and take it away in one visit, with no permit, no waiting and nothing left sat on your drive.

What a skip really costs

The price on a skip hire website is only the start. Here is everything that goes into the real cost of a skip in Staffordshire:

  • The hire. Typical local prices run from about £80 to £150 for a 2-yard mini skip, up to £250 to £320 for an 8-yard builder's skip, usually for 7 to 14 days.
  • A road permit. No room on your drive? The skip needs a council permit. In Staffordshire that is £42, with around 5 working days' notice, or £28 on top to rush it through in 3 days.
  • Extra charges. Mattresses usually cost extra, fridges and freezers are usually refused, and plasterboard has to be kept separate.
  • Your time. Every single item has to be carried out and lifted in, by you or by someone you pay.
  • The wait. It has to be delivered, filled and collected again, and it sits outside your house the whole time.

Skip prices are typical figures quoted by skip firms around Staffordshire in 2026 and vary between companies. Permit fees are Staffordshire County Council's current charges.

When a skip makes sense, and when we do

We will be straight with you. If you are doing a long renovation and filling a skip bit by bit over a couple of weeks, a big skip on your drive can be the right call.

For almost everything else, a man and van crew that does the loading is quicker, tidier and usually cheaper. We are the better choice when:

  • It is a one-off clear-out of a house, garage, loft or garden.
  • You cannot do the lifting, or you would rather not.
  • There is no drive and you do not want a permit or a skip in the street.
  • There are bulky or awkward items like sofas, mattresses and fridges.
  • You want it gone today, not next week.

Good to know

Skips vs man and van, answered

Is a man and van cheaper than a skip?

For most one-off clear-outs, yes. A skip price does not include the loading, a road permit if it cannot go on your drive, or the extra charges for mattresses and other restricted items. We give one fixed price that covers the loading, the labour and the disposal, and we will beat skip prices.

Do I need a permit for a skip?

Only if it goes on the road or pavement. In Staffordshire the permit costs £42 and lasts up to 7 days on A, B and C roads or 14 days on other roads, with around 5 working days' notice, and it is arranged by the skip company. Walsall and Wolverhampton issue their own permits. With us there is nothing left on the road, so there is no permit at all.

What can't go in a skip?

Most skip firms will not take fridges and freezers, and they charge extra for mattresses. Plasterboard has to be kept separate, and sofas and armchairs are often refused or charged extra because of the rules on POPs in upholstery. Hazardous waste such as asbestos, paint, chemicals and gas bottles cannot go in a general skip. We take fridges, mattresses, sofas and plasterboard, but like skip firms we cannot take hazardous waste.

When is a skip the better option?

If you are doing a long renovation and filling it bit by bit over a couple of weeks, a large skip on your drive can make sense. For a single clear-out, bulky items, or when you do not want to do the lifting, we are usually quicker and cheaper.

How quickly can you come?

A skip has to be delivered, filled by you and then collected again, which can take days. We come, load and leave in one visit, often the same day or the next, 7 days a week. Call or WhatsApp 07301 544068 for the soonest slot.
